Drinkwell Bangladesh delivers end-to-end drinking water services through the operation and maintenance of decentralized and utility-integrated systems. Services are designed to ensure continuous availability, consistent water quality, and affordability under real-world operating conditions.

  • Drinkwell Bangladesh operates drinking water systems on a day-to-day basis, ensuring continuous availability, system uptime, and safe water delivery. Responsibilities include routine inspections, preventive maintenance, operator supervision, and rapid response to service disruptions.

  • We conduct regular water quality testing and monitoring in line with standards set by public authorities. Monitoring protocols support consistent compliance, transparent reporting, and early identification of performance issues to protect public health.

  • Drinkwell works in coordination with municipal utilities to integrate systems into existing service frameworks. This includes alignment with utility operating procedures, coordination on tariffs and customer access, and support for utility oversight and reporting requirements.

  • Existing drinking water systems are assessed and rehabilitated to improve performance, extend service life, and address changing source water conditions. Upgrades focus on operational efficiency, reliability, and long-term sustainability rather than short-term fixes.

  • Drinkwell Bangladesh supports community engagement and customer service to ensure systems are trusted, understood, and used consistently. Local operators and technicians are trained to respond to user concerns and maintain service continuity at the community level.

A senior U.S. official emphasized the importance of strong policy enforcement for ensuring safe drinking water in Bangladesh, and noted ongoing cooperation efforts that include initiatives such as Drinkwell’s Water ATM installations in Dhaka, which provide treated drinking water at around 300 locations. According to the report, the USAID partnership supports local efforts to improve access to affordable, purified water through utility-aligned infrastructure and promotional activities.

Who we are

Drinkwell Bangladesh was founded by Minhaj Chowdhury, a Bangladeshi-American public health professional, following his completion of a U.S. Fulbright Fellowship to Bangladesh. During his fellowship, Minhaj conducted field research on household willingness to pay for safe drinking water in arsenic-affected communities, working closely with local institutions and communities across the country.

That research revealed a persistent gap between water infrastructure investment and reliable service delivery. In response, Minhaj established Drinkwell to apply evidence-based system design, local operations, and sustainable service models to Bangladesh’s urban and peri-urban water challenges.

Since its founding, Drinkwell Bangladesh has grown into a locally governed service delivery organization working in partnership with municipal utilities and development institutions to expand access to safe drinking water at scale.

Drinkwell Bangladesh is a locally incorporated operating company supporting drinking water service delivery through structured private sector participation in coordination with municipal utilities and public authorities.

Our team is based in Bangladesh and includes engineers, technicians, and operators drawn from the communities we serve. Operations are governed to ensure regulatory compliance, transparency, and long-term service reliability.
